Tanira Boone

Vice President, Finance and Chief Compliance Officer
Tanira Boone is Vice President, Finance and Chief Compliance Officer at Valens Asset Management.

Prior to Valens, Tanira was a senior member of the finance team supporting the private equity and private credit funds of The RLJ Companies, including RLJ Credit Management. In this role, she was responsible for fund-level accounting and finance operations, including financial reporting, investor reporting, audit coordination, and compliance oversight.
 
Tanira has worked with senior leadership across both equity and credit platforms, playing a key role in managing day-to-day fund operations and supporting strategic financial initiatives.
 
She began her career in corporate accounting at MicroStrategy, where she focused on global financial operations, financial reporting and analysis, and multi-state tax compliance.
 
Tanira holds a B.S. In Accounting from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University

Nick O'Brien

Managing Director

Nick A. O’Brien is a Managing Director at Valens Asset Management, and a member of the Investment Committee. 

Prior to Valens, Nick was a founding member of O2 Sponsor Finance, a division of Old Second National Bank focused on investing senior secured cash flow-based financing to lower middle market private equity backed companies.

Prior to O2 Sponsor Finance, Mr. O’Brien was a Vice President for TCF Capital Funding where he invested in a similar lower middle market senior cash flow investing strategy. TCF Capital Funding was a division of TCF National Bank (now The Huntington National Bank). 

Mr. O’Brien received a B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.

Trevoir D. Gregg

President & CEO

Trevoir D. Gregg is President and Chief Executive Officer of Valens Asset Management, and a member of the Investment Committee.

Prior to Valens, Trevoir D. Gregg was a Co-Founder  and Managing Partner of RLJ Credit Management, L.P., (“RLJ Credit”), a private investment firm that invests in senior debt, subordinated debt, and equity or equity-related securities of profitable lower middle market companies.  Mr. Gregg formed RLJ Credit in partnership with Robert L. Johnson, the Founder and former Chairman of Black Entertainment Television.  At RLJ Credit, Mr. Gregg was responsible for all aspects of fundraising, investment decisions and portfolio management, and investor relations. 

Before co-founding RLJ Credit, Mr. Gregg was a Principal with Allied Capital Corporation (“Allied Capital”), an investment firm that invests in senior debt, subordinated debt, and equity of private companies.  Mr. Gregg served as a member of the Investment Committee during 2009 and was a member of the Credit Committee of Allied Capital’s Collateralized Loan Obligation management platform from 2008-2010. 

Additionally, Mr. Gregg was a Vice President and founding member of Carlyle Mezzanine Partners, L.P., an investment fund formed by The Carlyle Group to invest in private mezzanine and minority-equity.  Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Gregg worked for GE Capital as a member of its Global Sponsor Finance team.  Mr. Gregg also has spent several years as an investment banker, focusing on leverage finance transactions.

Mr. Gregg received a B.A. from Morehouse College and an MBA from Harvard University.

Jerron Harewood

Chief Financial Officer
Jerron Harewood is a seasoned finance executive with over 15 years of experience across public accounting, corporate finance, and private capital markets.  Prior to Valens, he served as Chief Financial Officer for the private equity and private credit funds of The RLJ Companies, including RLJ Credit Management, where he led all fund administration activities, including financial operations, tax and regulatory compliance, investor relations, and strategic planning.
 
Jerron began his career in assurance at Ernst & Young, where he spent more than a decade advising Fortune 500 companies and high-growth firms on complex financial reporting, internal controls, and audit readiness.
 
Jerron holds a B.S. in Accounting, with honors, from Hampton University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Jean-Marc Chapus

Chairman

Jean-Marc Chapus is Chairman of Valens Asset Management, and a member of the Investment Committee.

Mr. Chapus is also a Co-Founder of Crescent Capital Group, a global alternative investment firm focused on below investment grade credit. As Co-Founder, he helped develop Crescent’s guiding investment philosophies in mezzanine, high yield, senior loans, European lending, special situations and other credit strategies, and as a result, Crescent has become a globally recognized leader in offering credit solutions to growth industries and the private equity community.

Additionally, Mr. Chapus has been instrumental in establishing Crescent’s private market investment activities as one of the largest and longest-standing platforms investing in private-equity led acquisitions worldwide.

Previously, Mr. Chapus was Group Managing Director of The TCW Group, Inc., co-managing TCW’s Leveraged Finance Group, and prior to TCW was an investment banker and capital markets professional.

Mr. Chapus is a current and former member of the board of numerous companies and institutions. Mr. Chapus received his AB in Economics and MBA from Harvard University.

Ethan Hallberg

Vice President

Ethan Hallberg is a Vice President at Valens Asset Management.

He has over a decade of experience in financial services, advising investment funds and other institutional investors on transaction due diligence and capital raises across various asset classes and sectors.

Most recently, Ethan has served as the Finance Director at Lenore Sports Partners, a sports investment platform, where he is engaged in executing the firm’s inaugural investment in a major European soccer team.

Previously, Ethan worked at Maycomb Capital, an impact private credit fund, where he focused primarily on investments in healthcare technology companies. Prior to Maycomb Capital, he was an early employee at NPX Advisors, a financial advisory start-up.

Ethan spent the first five years of his career in healthcare investment banking, first at Morgan Stanley and then at Cain Brothers, a boutique healthcare M&A advisory firm.

He holds an MA in Finance and a BA in Economics from Claremont McKenna College.

Previously, Ethan worked at Maycomb Capital, an impact private credit fund, and NPX Advisors, a financial advisory start-up.

Ethan spent the first five years of his career in investment banking, first at Morgan Stanley and then at Cain Brothers, focused on middle market healthcare M&A and capital raising.

He holds an MA in Finance and a BA in Economics from Claremont McKenna College.

Danny Tippens

Vice President

Danny Tippens is a Vice President at Valens Asset Management.

Danny also has experience as a Director at Bakken Energy. Bakken invested in clean energy projects throughout the United States.  Danny helped execute investments and raise numerous rounds of capital in the form of grants, debt and equity.

Before joining Bakken Energy, Danny worked as a Principal at Iremia Management, a Connecticut-based private equity firm. He focused on investments in the consumer and professional services industries.

Prior to Iremia, he worked on New Corp’s Corporate Development Team, which focused on acquisitions, divestitures, and other finance-related support.  Danny completed numerous investments ranging from small minority investments to multi-billion dollar acquisitions.

Danny started his career as an Investment Banker at Stephens working on middle market buy-side and sell-side transactions.
Danny holds a B.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma with a focus on finance.
